Today we’d like to introduce a little side project that grew out of a very practical need: Traeky (https://traeky.app).

Why Traeky Exists

If you’ve ever tried to keep your crypto transactions organized – maybe just for your own overview or even for tax-related purposes – you probably know the pain:

Spreadsheets everywhere, manual notes, multiple exchanges, different file formats, constantly changing prices. Things get messy and error-prone very quickly.

That’s exactly where Traeky comes in. It started as an internal tool we built for ourselves, but we quickly realized that many others are likely facing the same challenges. So we decided to make Traeky available as an open-source project.

What is Traeky?

Traeky is a local, open-source, self-hostable web application that helps you record and track your transactions – especially in the crypto space.

Here are the key features at a glance:

  • 💻 Runs locally in your browser: Your data never leaves your browser. There is no backend server storing or processing your transactions. Everything stays on your device.
  • 🔐 Encrypted local storage: All data is stored in your browser’s local storage in encrypted form. You can create multiple profiles and protect each of them with a PIN.
  • 📁 Import support: Traeky currently supports imports from:
    • Binance (XLSX files)
    • Bitpanda (CSV files)
  • 💹 Historical prices via CoinGecko: Token prices at the respective transaction time can be fetched automatically via CoinGecko and stored locally. This makes it easier to reproduce and verify values later without repeated API calls.
  • 💾 Backup & restore via CSV: You can back up your entire transaction history via CSV export and restore or migrate it via CSV import.
  • 📄 PDF reports: Traeky lets you generate PDF reports, for example:
    • Staking rewards for a specific year (e.g. 2025)
    • Other filters such as Buy/Sell can be applied so you only export the data you actually need.

Currencies & Languages

To make Traeky usable in different environments from day one, the following settings are currently supported:

  • Base currencies:
    • 🇺🇸 USD
    • 🇪🇺 EUR
  • Interface languages:
    • 🇩🇪 German
    • 🇬🇧 English

This allows you to configure Traeky to match your regional and personal preferences.

Desktop-First by Design

Right now, Traeky is not optimized for mobile use and is clearly focused on desktop. The reason is simple: most users who work with multiple files, reports, and exchanges tend to do so on a laptop or desktop, where they can comfortably manage imports, exports and reports. That’s where we see the primary use case. Mobile optimization is therefore not a current priority – but we’re happy to collect feedback and consider it down the road.

Open Source & Feedback

Traeky is an open-source project which means:

  • You can see exactly what happens with your data (or rather, that it stays with you).
  • You can self-host Traeky, adapt it, or extend it to your own needs.
  • We actively welcome feedback, ideas, bug reports, and contributions from the community.

If you have suggestions or encounter issues, we’d be very happy to hear from you.
